OCTOBER 2024

We had the most amazing experience while being in Timor-Leste! While every day brought its challenges, overall, it was an incredible experience that we will never forget. The rhythm of each day was work until lunch, devotional time after lunch and ministry in the afternoon. Having time carved out during the day to rest, slow down and to dedicate to ministry made the two weeks feel so worshipful.

In the first few days at Bahareduk, as Brian and David began their concreting work with some hired locals, we found our calling in screeding. Who knew levelling concrete with a long metal bar could be so enjoyable? We did this for over 60 square metres of concrete over the week, and were glad to be able to contribute to the team by learning a new skill.

One of the most rewarding experiences was running the kids and youth ministry alongside Jess (she was our guiding star through the whole week). We were a bit stressed because we didn’t know how many kids would rock up and we didn’t exactly speak fluent Tetun. But we prepared as best we could with songs in Tetun, simple games and phrases to help explain the games. The first youth session was chaotic, but the kids had so much fun. We went into the next kids’ ministry session with a bit more confidence, which made the experience all the more rewarding!

It's hard to describe just how incredible this experience was, and there are so many more stories we could share about the joys and the

challenges, but hopefully we have given you a glimpse into our experience in Timor-Leste. We can’t thank the Carver family enough for

their support and encouragement over the week, thank you!
