JULY 2015
My name is Cate and I went with my family to East Timor on the mission trip. It was an amazing experience for me where I learnt so many things about myself, other people, and about God. This is a little snippet from the journal I kept while we were over there.
After the break I helped Sarah and Heather sort out and stock the medical chest. That was actually really fun. We then had lunch and Anabel asked me to say grace. It was rice and chicken again but who’s complaining? Then later I made a handle for a rake after some frustration but it actually looked pretty decent. After dinner we had a gathering outside the YWAM base with lots of kids and parents. We sat under the stars and sang songs, prayed and Alina told the story of Zacchaeus, as well as sharing her testimony. Beforehand Jess and I were playing hand/clapping games with some little girls. As I was looking at the stars, listening to Atina, I just marvelled at how absolutely amazing God is. He has taken a group of pretty average people from South Australia and put them in a little village in East Timor where they are listening to a story about Jesus in a whole new language. A story they’ve heard in their own churches back in Adelaide heaps of times, and in English too. And now they are hearing the same story in another whole part of the world, completely different from everything they’ve ever know back home. And all because of this one guy. Jesus connects people, and Jesus makes miracles happen. The stars look brilliant in Bahareduk. Jack and I have this kind of running joke where we replace the ‘duk’ in Bahareduk with things that we see. This has resulted in things like Baharapig, Baharemum and Baharechicken.
