I A N

OCTOBER 2024

This was my fourth trip to East Timor and the third working in the village of Bahareduk.

All team members were great and we happily functioned as a big family supporting and helping each other with whatever was happening.

Each time I have been to East Timor, I seem to get involved with electrical work. Lights at the school in Hera, small solar panel, batteries and lights at the base in Bahareduk, then more lights and 12 volt power system for a fridge in Arthur’s house (staff house at Bahareduk).

This time, due to the generosity of funds (WPUC) and practical assistance (Elizabeth Church of Christ), a significant solar and battery system had been installed. Its primary purpose is to reliably keep a fridge and freezer running plus provide improved lighting both at the base and Arthur’s house for the YWAM staff living there on a regular basis as well as visiting groups/teams.

Using a combination of materials transported from Adelaide plus those sourced in Dili I was able to install light and power into Arthur’s house.

The base had been previously ‘wired’ with some areas having power and light. However, I was able to fix a few issues to provide improved

safety as well as put the freezer on a separate circuit for reliability. There is still lots of work to be done!

There was more work than time, however, I enjoyed the challenge.

While not necessarily directly impacting and interacting with the local community I feel I was in my small way assisting those who live and work in the village on a regular basis so they can continue to minister as well as making the base more for the teams to enjoy while in the village (oops … Bahareduk is now known as a town!)

I would encourage anyone to think and pray about joining the team for the upcoming trip in September/October 2025.
